Why we use a road map for our curriculum
We use curriculum roadmaps to help parent/carers, students, support staff and teachers visualise the big picture of what children learn as they move through school. Instead of a long, complicated curriculum document, the roadmap gives a simple, visual overview of how learning builds over time.
It highlights the key knowledge, skills, and experiences we want every child to gain, and shows how these connect from one year group to the next. This helps to ensure that learning makes sense, links together clearly, and prepares children well for what comes next.
The roadmap isn’t a day‑by‑day plan—it’s a guide that helps teachers design lessons that meet the needs of their class while still following a clear, consistent path. It also allows us to adapt and improve our curriculum when needed, while keeping our overall goals the same.
For parents/carers, the roadmap provides an easy way to understand what your child is learning, why it matters, and how their learning will grow over time.
