Elmbridge School

Holistic education

Elmbridge School is a specialist setting for a cohort of KS4 students with Education Health and Social Care Plans.
We seek to foster an inclusive culture through our use of a relational approach, where we respond in a way that focuses upon the feelings and emotions that might drive certain behaviour, rather than the behaviour itself. We believe that our students feel valued through the promotion of diversity and empathy which helps to build each pupil's self-esteem.
Our curriculum is broad and balanced and is modified to meet the diverse needs of our cohort. It includes task adjustments and alternative resources and operates within a holistic educational experience aimed at filling gaps in student learning. We focus on creating an environment where our young people can continue to make progress, improve social skills, develop resilience and self-awareness.
Learning experiences take place in a range of settings, both on and off site, and we have strong links with colleges, employers, alternative educational providers and training establishments.
We aim...
  • To help our young people develop a sense of worth, identity and achievement
  • To support our young people in developing their emotional regulation skills, which in turn will impact upon their ability to regulate their behaviour
  • To support all students in learning effective, safe ways of communicating their needs
  • To help all our young people become self-disciplined, able to accept responsibility for their own actions, and able to make positive choices
  • To develop, in all our young people, the ability to listen to others, cooperate and appreciate other ways of thinking and behaving.
